Project
Sustainable embedding of experiential knowledge and expertise in higher education. (DIVED)
In the social domain, knowledge by experience is increasingly recognised as a third source of knowledge, alongside professional and scientific knowledge. This project develops and coordinates actions within research, education and student support in which the recognition of knowledge and experience is central. In recent decades, experiential knowledge has been increasingly recognised as a third source of knowledge, alongside professional and scientific knowledge. This evolution translates into the increased (professional) use of experts by experience in the social domain, research and education. This project therefore consists of 2 sub-levels: Education level (incl. student support): The courses within the social pedagogical department at HOGENT are not separate from broader social developments and specific development within the professional field. These programmes are also crucial in the professionalisation of social professionals of the future. And that requires continuous reflection on the social role of these social professionals. Furthermore, we also see that higher education plays an important role in (re)producing social (im)equality. Not everyone has the same opportunities to take the step into higher education and bring it to fruition. In the same light, we therefore see that the demand for psychological support is increasing along with the number of students struggling with mental health issues.Social and structural circumstances (e.g. Work, financial problems) have a major impact on mental health, resulting in inequalities between different 'groups' of students. All these developments therefore lead to the question of how experiential knowledge can be more (re)recognised and embedded in the department of social work and thus also in the development of the social work and remedial education programmes. We distinguish three important issues here: - How do we (re)recognise experiential knowledge within education? - How do we engage with students' experiential knowledge? - How do we support students with a 'backpack'? Level research: In addition, this social evolution also raises some questions about how we do research and which knowledge is valued more than others there. The central idea is that research in the social domain also (re)produces processes of social (in)justice.Within this project, through concrete actions (e.g. round table discussions with client organisations, mapping inspiring practices, learning networks with experts by experience,...) we will try to develop knowledge by experience on an equal footing in the collective EQUALITY//ResearchCollective, in which exchange and cross-fertilisation between different forms of knowledge are central in the pursuit of more social justice. In addition, based on the accumulated knowledge, ad hoc projects can be developed with the field around embedding experiential knowledge in the broad social domain.
