Understanding the Dynamics and Consequences of Young Adult Substance Use Pathways - A Longitudinal And Momentary Analysis in the European nightclub scene (ALAMA NIGHTLIFE)

Nightlife has grown significantly in recent decades and is strongly associated with drug use. Meanwhile, an unseen number of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) have also emerged. The potency of ecstasy pills has doubled, and with it the number of health incidents. Previous studies failed to capture the dynamics of drug use in nightlife, short-term (before, during and after clubbing) and long-term (changes over time). A pan-European understanding of these issues is necessary to make optimal policy choices regarding nightlife licensing, drug control and harm reduction. This research project combines the latest interdisciplinary techniques (instantaneous or real-time, long-term, subjective, biological) with cross-country comparison to understand the dynamics and evolution of drug use and its short- and long-term consequences.
